:-) This is how boats will look like when our kids grow up. The result is however turning the boating industry upside down for good. It may look easy but it has been helluva ride of mechanics, re-thinking, coding and problems. Here is a video showing how a Candela behaves in waves. And because it’s fun to do it differently. Because we have found a way to make our tiny contribution. In 2023, we will increase the number of boats delivered with 10x. That spirit, that anything can be done, within the laws of nature, combined with an ability to stay reasonably happy in a constant shit-storm of failures and problems makes the 200 people now working at Candela different. To move the sun, yes, let’s do it! We just have to figure out how. I found someone who is probably more convinced than I am that anything can be done with the right knowledge. So I had to find at least one person with money who also thinks different, which, I have learned, is an uphill battle against the discipline of statistics. The allocation of scarce resources seemed to work. And, to no surprise, the two naive ones burning their precious time in meetings with me eventually got sane and said no thanks. That is why, in my first attempt to raise money, I got only two meetings from the 90+ VCs I contacted. To kick off the project that is now called Candela was an insane idea.
